Glaucoma is one of the leading causes of blindness worldwide, yet many people do not realize they have it until significant vision loss has occurred. Often called the "silent thief of sight", glaucoma damages the optic disk, the vital link between your eyes and your brain usually without early warning signs. What is Glaucoma? Glaucoma is not a single disease but a group of eye conditions that lead to damage of the optic disk, most commonly due to increased pressure inside the eye (intraocular pressure). Over time, this damage can lead to permanent vision loss if not detected and managed early. Types of Glaucoma 1. Open-Angle Glaucoma This is the most common type.
